As an intern for BigDCats my responsibilities vary from tracking charter sales, bar-tending, to cleaning up the boats after an event. I have two positions within the company including working as a crew member and working as a sales associate in the office. As a crew member I am responsible for instructing all coast-guard required safety measures, ensuring the needs of the guests are met, and maintaining the boats cleanliness throughout the charter. However, as a sales associate in the office my responsibilities include tracking charter sales, taking note of all prospective and closed sales and inputting the data into written contracts for the guests to sign. There are other small tasks I am responsible for including, writing thank you cards to clients, sending brochures, and setting up follow up emails. My position with BigDCats has provided me with knowledge and experience from both ends of the customer service spectrum that I will be able to apply in my future hospitality driven endeavors.
The requirements and qualifications needed to fulfill this position include having experience in customer service and a passion for recreation and the outdoors. As an intern I was paid for my hours in the office as well as onboard and tips were included for all private parties. However, there were not any extra recreational opportunities but each cruise you have the opportunity to network with guests that have the same interests as you.
I acquired new skills including effective sales tactics, maintaining the cleanliness of the boats', and tending to the lines. I also learned basic bartending skills and efficient ways of serving dinner onboard. These tasks sound relatively simple but at max capacity, in the middle of the afternoon it can be very difficult to entertain, make multiple drinks, and keep children from climbing on the tables. With that said my multitasking, organizational, and perceptive skills were also greatly improved
